ADF attorney available to media following hearing over NY Christians arrested after praying in park
ADF Senior Legal Counsel Joel Oster will argue an appeal before a New York county court Wednesday on behalf of a group of Christians arrested and convicted for praying silently during a public event celebrating homosexual behavior. In 2008, Julian Raven and three others were found “guilty” of disorderly conduct after they lay prostrate on the ground for a few moments during a “Gay Pride” event at a public park.

3rd Circuit hands down precedent-setting abortion clinic ‘buffer zone’ decision
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit struck down an ordinance Friday that Alliance Defense Fund attorneys challenged as unconstitutional for prohibiting speech in specified zones outside Pittsburgh abortion clinics. ADF attorneys represent a pro-life nurse who challenged the ordinance, which prohibited her from counseling and speaking with women near the clinics.

Maine counselor's career threatened for support of marriage
A high school counselor who supports marriage between one man and one woman has been reported to a Maine licensing board because of his views. Attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund represent Donald Mendell, the subject of a complaint filed with the Board of Social Worker Licensure by a co-worker because he expressed support for marriage and the "Vote Yes on One" campaign.

S.D. pro-life group no longer denied access to school campus
Attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund have obtained a settlement from officials with the Rapid City Area School District in a lawsuit involving a pro-life group’s request to use a school auditorium for an after-school meeting. In 2008, ADF filed suit against the school district after it denied Citizens for Life access to school facilities even though it allowed other groups to meet.

Lawsuit against Univ. of Florida ended discrimination against Christian group
As a result of a lawsuit filed by attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund and Christian Legal Society, the University of Florida has changed its policy that discriminated against a Christian men’s fraternity and will now allow the fraternity to operate on campus as an official student organization. Because the university changed its policy, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit dismissed the lawsuit Tuesday, but university officials continue to defend their previous policy.

Ariz. Supreme Court lets victory for children’s tuition program stand
The Arizona Supreme Court Tuesday handed a defeat to the American Civil Liberties Union in its attempt to have a program that funds scholarships for low- and middle-income children declared unconstitutional. The court declined to review a ruling by the Court of Appeals that upheld the program.

Everyone welcome - except churches
Attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund filed suit in federal court Wednesday after Holly Area School District officials refused to allow a Christian student to distribute personal invitations to a Vacation Bible School even though other students and community groups have been allowed to distribute literature. A teacher told the student that nothing from a church could be distributed at school, and both the principal and the superintendent upheld the decision.

ADF attorneys ask U.S. Supreme Court to review Okla. Ten Commandments decision
Attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund asked the U.S. Supreme Court Wednesday to review a decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit that said a Ten Commandments display at the Haskell County, Okla., courthouse is unconstitutional. A district court had ruled in favor of ADF attorneys representing the county in the lawsuit, brought by the American Civil Liberties Union, until the 10th Circuit reversed the decision.
