WHO:  ADF Senior Counsel Glen Lavy
WHAT:  Available for media interviews after testimony over proposed “gender identity” ordinance
WHEN:  Tuesday, Sept. 1, immediately following testimony, which begins at 7 p.m. CDT
WHERE:  Goshen High School, 1 Redskin Rd., Goshen

GOSHEN, Ind. — Alliance Defense Fund Senior Counsel Glen Lavy will be available for media interviews Tuesday after his testimony before the Goshen City Council on a proposed “gender identity” and “sexual orientation” ordinance.

The passage and enforcement of the ordinance would give special privileges to individuals based on whether they engage in homosexual behavior or what they have chosen at any time as the gender with which they identify, potentially endangering the safety of women and children in public facilities by creating a loophole for sexual predators.  The ordinance could also create an unintended opportunity for those seeking to redefine marriage.

“Men and women are different, and nothing can change that,” said Lavy.  “This newly proposed ordinance has not passed public scrutiny and caters to political special interests.  Laws should protect rights, not grant special privileges based strictly on someone’s sexual confusion.  The city of Goshen should not enact laws that reduce safety for women and children in public areas and also open up another avenue for attacks on marriage.”

The Goshen City Council is considering the proposed additions as part of an ordinance that creates a new Community Relations Commission.  As one potential consequence, the ordinance could allow the entry of men “identifying” as women to use women’s restrooms and locker rooms.

Lavy lived in the Goshen area for 14 years and has many immediate family members in the area.
