SCOTTSDALE, AZ— The battle to protect marriage is just beginning. A federal marriage amendment wouldn’t be necessary if the courts weren’t overruling the will of the people.
People should continue to fight this battle at both the federal and local levels. ADF will certainly continue to do so. The battle is not over simply because this amendment did not succeed at this time.
As same-sex homosexual couples move from state to state, they will create confusion not just for the legal system itself, but also for employers and taxpayers. Passage of the Federal Marriage Amendment would have prevented this problem. The Senate missed a great opportunity to do the right thing by passing FMA. Nonetheless, we believe the American people will ultimately prevail.
Same-sex "marriage" is not inevitable. The will of the people will legally define marriage, not the courts. When given the opportunity, people have voted to protect marriage by nearly two to one or more in nearly every state. They know that children deserve both a mom and a dad. In marriage, both men and women matter.
ADF is America’s largest legal alliance defending religious liberty through strategy, training, funding, and litigation.
